What does the brick resemble?

I think the brick in Charles D'Ambrosio's "Brick Wall" symbolizes the people of Chicago as a whole group. Everyone values the antiques in the shop because they have "aged" and age builds value. Ironically brick also grows stronger with age. People also develop with age. New experiences bring new knowledge and knowledge makes one more valuable. Both humans and brick and antiques are more valuable with history.

  1. Yeah I agree with you Malorie, I feel like the D'Ambrosio tries to tell us that we tend to want to go back to the past, but we find ourselves just being worse because of it. Instead, it's progress and change that keeps us going.

  2. I agree with you Malorie. I never looked at in the perspective of history, but now that I do it makes more sense. You make a good point.
