Brick Wall

The significance of brick:
I believe brick has a few significant meanings in D’Ambrosio’s Brick Wall. Firstly I believe it represents the one solid item or ideal in the city that is always changing. In Chicago where fires and crime were described and the origins of the bar, brick was the one thing that didn’t change and stayed constant. It also represents the roughness and unforgiving aspect of the town and people. Some of the crimes described, such as the raping and murdering of the nurses in the hotel and the killing of George with a pipe, as well as the former uses of the buildings, the slaughterhouse make the taste of blood thick in the air, characterizes Chicago as a very rough and tough city.

  1. I agree with Eric here. The brick is rough and bloody just like the people and the history of Chicago.

  2. I agree with this. Mostly on how the brick represents the roughness of the city. Chicago has a history of horrid crimes which is rough just like the brick.
