The purpose of College

The essential purpose of a 4 year degree at a university is simply to be competitive in the job hunting game. It will give you an edge over a 2 year community college degree and over a high school diploma, obviously. But it also gives a larger choice of careers to chose from, and usually higher paying. So in the end the basic 4 year degree college student, such as I, is here to be more competitive in the workplace. The college student that goes on to get a six year or eight year or however long degree mya have you, is to quench that thirst for knowledge and be in the college atmosphere as long as possible, and to go onto whatever scholarly postition they so chose.

  1. I completely agree with Eric's post. Going to college definitely gives you the upper hand in the job world, by comparison to someone who hasn't gone to college. This is obvious, especially in this economy. Furthering your education only helps you in the long run and more options to choose from.

  2. I agree with this. I know that I personally came to college so that it would give me a better chance at getting a good paying job where I can in the future provide for my family.

  3. I respectfully disagree with some of what you're saying. I feel that with the ever increasing student debt problem, what's a medium paying job worth when you can never be able to pay your loans back? In the end, you might spend years slaving away to pay off your loans, only to find yourself unhappy because you have to do so. And with that unhappiness, college may not necessarily be worth it.
